WHO WE ARE

Setting the standard for telemedicine.

Individualized medical care using evidence-based dietary approaches, an app-based community of support and a compassionate healthcare team who have themselves maintained massive weight-loss.

Dr. Tro Kalayjian, Founder and Chief Medical Officer at Toward Health

OUR STORY

I knew I could do more for my patients.

After losing more than 150 pounds himself, Dr. Tro Kalayjian saw the healthcare system from both sides: as a physician and as a patient who had struggled for years. He knew people deserved more than another short appointment, another prescription, or another plan that ignored the realities of hunger, biology, and daily life.

He built Toward Health to practice medicine differently—combining evidence-based metabolic care with continuous access, coaching, education, community, and real-time feedback. The goal was never simply weight loss. It was to help people understand their health, reduce unnecessary medication when clinically appropriate, and build progress they could sustain.

Today, that same belief guides every part of Toward Health: listen first, measure what matters, and stay connected for the moments between appointments—because lasting change happens in real life.

Founder & Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Tro Kalayjian is the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Toward Health. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine and is a founding member of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. After losing 150 pounds by challenging conventional medical advice, Dr. Tro dedicated his career to helping others reclaim their health, improve chronic disease, and reduce dependence on medications when clinically appropriate.

His practice specializes in treating type 2 diabetes and obesity through a personalized, lifestyle-based approach. Toward Health’s published six-month medical weight-loss program has reported an average weight loss of 43 pounds, along with meaningful improvements in A1C, blood pressure, cardiac risk, and annual medication costs. Backed by peer-reviewed publications, the program emphasizes evidence-based metabolic health interventions and measurable outcomes.

Using remote patient monitoring and connected devices, Dr. Tro stays closely connected to patients and can provide timely support and adjustments. Having personally faced many of the same challenges, he brings empathy and practical insight to care. His goal is to help patients improve their health through sustainable changes in nutrition, movement, and mindset.

Since discovering a ketogenic and low-carb lifestyle, she has lost over 200 pounds and has both reversed pre-diabetes and resolved lifelong depression. “When I was just starting out, facing 200 pounds to lose seemed insurmountable, and the idea I would ever be where I am now was unfathomable. Know this: I am not extraordinary. I just finally got the right advice, put one foot in front of the other and didn’t look back. I know now that it can be done, but after battling this war for 40 years I had lost hope that it was really, truly possible. I am living proof that it is.”

Read more about Amy’s story and struggles with food addiction and chronic dieting (“I Am Not Broken”). She also recently wrote a blog entitled “Weathering the Perfect Storm“.

Amy was the featured guest of Episode 84 of the Low Carb MD podcast, and more recently starred in Episode 136 of The Adventures of Keto Woman, a podcast with Daisy Brackenhall.
