About Dr. Laura

Prevention and successful aging

Dr. Laura Buchanan is a board-certified Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine physician, a Metabolic Health Practitioner, and a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. Her mission is to help people age successfully. That passion began with a love of sports and expanded to include nutrition, exercise, mental wellness, and thoughtful use of the medical system. She sees her role as a doctor as two-fold: promoting prevention and practicing medicine.

Metabolic health and whole-person care

Since entering medicine, Dr. Laura has focused on the intersections of longevity, metabolic health, lifestyle change, and chronic disease. She studies emerging research on diet, sleep, and other factors that may affect metabolic health. She is a certified Metabolic Health Practitioner, a founding member of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners, and a member of the Obesity Medicine Association.

Connection and professional service

Dr. Laura is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She sees Family Medicine as a powerful way to help people age successfully because of the deep, lasting relationships physicians can develop with patients. She especially values the opportunity to be part of each patient’s journey toward better health.
