A busy day or a long drive does not have to leave you without a meal that fits your low-carb plan. Start with a few familiar orders, look at the menu before you arrive, and keep a backup for the stops where your choices are limited.

This guide covers U.S. restaurant menus checked in September 2026, plus food you can find at rest stops and gas stations. Menus, prices and custom orders vary by location. Use the restaurant's current menu and nutrition information for the order you actually receive.

A simple way to build your order

Where you stop Start with Check before ordering
Burger restaurant A beef burger with the toppings you enjoy Ask for no bun; check sauces and avoid substituting breaded chicken for plain beef without checking its nutrition.
Burrito restaurant A protein-and-vegetable bowl or salad Ask to leave out rice, beans, tortilla and chips; review specialty sauces.
Salad counter Greens with eggs, cheese or unbreaded meat Check croutons, crunchy toppings, sweet add-ins and dressing.
Convenience store Eggs, cheese, meat or fish, with vegetables if available Read the package's total carbohydrate and serving size, including any crackers or sweetened accompaniments.

Make a clear request, such as “Could I have that without the bun?” If the restaurant cannot make the change, you can set the bread aside yourself or choose another option. Confirm the price instead of relying on a hidden menu or assuming that separate ingredients cost less.

The carbohydrate figures below are total carbohydrate for the named item and serving. A different flavor, sauce, drink or side changes the meal. A “keto,” “cauliflower,” “gluten-free” or “high-protein” label is a reason to check the details, not a substitute for them.

Fast-food chains

Blaze Pizza

Build a salad with the greens and toppings you enjoy, and leave out the accompanying flatbread. Check prepared salads for croutons and sweet dressings. If you want pizza, check the specific crust's nutrition and local availability first; do not plan your stop around an older keto-crust listing. Current menu · Nutrition information.

Burger King

Burger King logo

Ask for a beef burger without its bun, with the toppings you want. At breakfast, ask about sausage, egg and cheese without the croissant or biscuit. Check what the local restaurant can prepare; separate patties and bowl-style orders are requests, not guaranteed menu items. Menu · Nutrition Explorer.

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A logo

At breakfast, consider the Hash Brown Scramble Bowl with grilled chicken or sausage and no hash browns. Later, choose Grilled Nuggets or ask for a grilled sandwich without the bun. Eight Grilled Nuggets contain 1 g total carbohydrate before dipping sauce. For a salad, choose grilled chicken and review its toppings and dressing. Grilled Nuggets ingredients and nutrition · Breakfast and other ordering options.

Some people report higher blood sugar or lingering hunger after eating the chicken here. If that has been your experience, choose an option that works better for you.

Chipotle

Build a burrito bowl or salad with chicken, steak, carnitas or barbacoa. Add lettuce, fajita vegetables and your choice of salsa, cheese, sour cream, guacamole or queso. Leave out rice, beans, corn salsa, chips and tortillas for a lower-carb order. Check specialty proteins and sauces, which change over time. Menu and ingredient ideas.

Five Guys

Order your burger or hot dog without the bun, in a bowl or lettuce wrap. Add cheese, bacon and vegetables as you prefer, and check sauces separately. The bunless option is part of the chain's published ordering guidance; confirm your particular order and price at the restaurant. Nutrition and bunless-order FAQ.

Jersey Mike's Subs

Ask for your preferred sub as a bowl with no bread. Choose meat, cheese and vegetables, and ask about extra meat if you want it. Oil and vinegar are dressing options; check flavored sauces such as honey mustard separately. Confirm which combinations your shop can prepare. Current bowl terminology · Nutrition lookup.

KFC

Check the local menu before choosing this stop, especially if you are counting on grilled chicken or green beans. Ask whether unbreaded chicken and a vegetable side are available. If the choices do not fit your plan, use another nearby option from this guide. Local menu · Nutrition information.

McDonald's

For breakfast, choose an egg, meat and cheese sandwich and ask for it without the muffin, biscuit or bun; you can also set the bread aside yourself. For lunch or dinner, use the same approach with a beef burger. Keep the toppings you enjoy and check sauces. Choose from the current menu rather than relying on older grilled-chicken recommendations. Moe's Southwest Grill

Build a bowl around chicken, steak, ground beef or tofu. Add lettuce, grilled peppers and onions, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream or guacamole. Leave out rice, beans, tortilla and chips for a lower-carb bowl. Extra protein is an option; portions and prices vary. Official 2026 nutrition chart.

Pieology

Pieology logo

Consider a custom salad with chicken, vegetables and dressing on the side. If you choose pizza, check the crust's nutrition for the amount you plan to eat. Pieology's cauliflower crust contains rice flour and starches; its name does not make it automatically suitable for your carbohydrate target. Salad menu · Cauliflower-crust ingredients.

Pizza Hut

Look for bone-in wings and check the flavor and portion you order. Boneless wings are breaded, and sweet sauces such as Honey BBQ and Sweet Chili need a separate look. Compare Buffalo or dry-rub options using the nutrition guide. If pizza is the available meal, you can leave the crust and eat the toppings; do not use the whole-slice nutrition figure for those toppings alone. Wings menu · Nutrition information.

Rapid Fired Pizza

Ask about No Doh, which uses spinach, Parmesan or both instead of a dough crust. Choose the meat, vegetables, cheese and sauce you want. A build-your-own salad is another option. The base changes the meal, but toppings and sauces still contribute to its carbohydrate content. Current menu.

Starbucks

Bacon & Gruyère Egg Bites contain 9 g total carbohydrate per 130 g serving. That figure is for the full named serving, not each bite or every flavor. An Eggs & Cheddar Protein Box offers eggs and cheese alongside bread, fruit and a sweetened spread; choose the components that fit your plan. You can also leave the bread from a breakfast sandwich. Taco Bell

Start with a Cantina Chicken Bowl and ask to leave out rice and beans. Keep the chicken, lettuce, cabbage, pico de gallo and toppings that fit your plan; review sauces too. Breakfast and custom requests vary by location. Check ahead instead of relying on older Power Bowl or Scrambler names. Current bowls · Breakfast locations and menu.

Wendy's

Wendy's logo

Ask for a beef burger without its bun, or choose a grilled-chicken salad. For Parmesan Caesar, leave off the crunchy Parmesan crumble, which includes croutons; for Cobb, leave off the crispy fried onions. Check dressing ingredients and portions. Where breakfast is served, an egg, meat and cheese sandwich can be eaten without the bread. Parmesan Caesar ingredients · Cobb ingredients.

Rest Stops & Gas Stations

Look beyond the hot-food counter. The refrigerated case and grocery shelves may give you enough choices to put together a meal. Keep foods that need refrigeration cold during the rest of your trip.

  • Eggs, meat and cheese: look for hard-boiled eggs, string cheese, pepperoni or salami packs, and jerky with little added sugar. Check the label and leave any crackers aside if they do not fit your plan.
  • Plain dairy: plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are options. Compare the serving size, total carbohydrate and protein; sweetened versions can differ substantially.
  • Vegetables and accompaniments: choose pre-cut vegetables, a salad, avocado, guacamole or pickles when available. Check salad add-ins and dressing separately.
  • Nuts and crunchy snacks: almonds, walnuts, pecans, peanuts, macadamias and pork rinds can provide portable options. Check flavored coatings and the amount in the package.
  • Hot food: look for unbreaded grilled, rotisserie, baked or smoked chicken; wings, roller dogs or sausages; or a burger or breakfast sandwich without the bread. Review sauces and fillings rather than assuming that every meat item has the same ingredients.
  • Pizza or wraps: ask whether a pizza bowl or lettuce wrap is available, or leave the pizza crust behind. A packaged low-carb tortilla still needs a serving-size and ingredient check.

Low-Carb Beverage Options

Water, seltzer, sparkling water, unsweetened tea and plain coffee are straightforward choices. Diet soda can also be an option. Check flavored drinks, syrups and creamers, which can change the carbohydrate content. Choose the drink you intend to have rather than accepting a sweetened drink automatically with a meal deal.

Packaged Snacks Options

Keep one or two familiar choices in mind, while checking the exact package you find:

  • Quest: the range includes bars, shakes and protein chips. Different products and flavors have different serving sizes and carbohydrate totals. Manufacturer product range.
  • Whisps and Moon Cheese: these are cheese-snack options, with different cheeses and flavors; they are not all Parmesan. Compare the current ingredient list and nutrition label. Whisps · Moon Cheese.
  • Other low-carb-style chips or wraps: compare labels rather than assuming an almond-flour or “keto” product will fit your plan. Have an alternative if a familiar brand is not stocked.
