Where do you live? Delaware

Profession? Professor of Interpersonal Communication at University of Delaware

Diet/weight history? Max weight 300+, been dieting since I was in elementary school. Up and down yo-yo pattern.

Successes achieved on low carb? Reversed prediabetes (no longer prediabetic). Currently down to 220lbs, about 50 lbs since I started w Tro in October 2023.

How long have you been low carb?  Formally, 1 year, but experimented with it for longer

Why did you start low carb? Reading books.  podcast convinced me it would help me with binge eating and yo yo dieting.

How did you start? Jason Fung, Gary Taubes, books, podcast, tried to do keto on my own and monitor sugar w finger pricks

How has keto changed for you over this time? It’s become very normal and easy. Benefits include: helps reduce binge eating, less cravings, improved energy, improved mood, improved insulin sensitivity, no longer pre-diabetic

What do you struggle with? Nuts and sweets. esp when tired

What do you love about low carb? It works for me. it’s simple. does not require a lot of thinking

Top tip? Consistency is more important than anything else.  Other advice: eat whole food. no snacks

Advice for people just starting out? Make gradual changes and give it time. Consistency is the most important factor.

Favorite low-carb meal on the go? Five guys burgers without bun

Favorite low-carb meal to cook? Hate cooking. Learning to cook steak.

Favorite holiday/special occasion recipe? Steak. Seriously – most holiday foods are high carb in my family. Holidays are usually stressful for me because of this.

Favorite inspirational quote? Consistency is key

Desert-island must-have (maybe a favorite TV show, music, book, and/or item you can’t or don’t want to live without)? I need all my Spotify with all my music and my kindle with all my books.  I can’t narrow it down beyond that.
