For generations, we have accepted the story that weight loss never truly lasts. We are told that once the diet ends or the medication stops, the weight comes back and the cycle begins again. Calories are counted. Willpower is tested. Motivation fades. Traditional medicine continues to treat weight gain as the problem itself rather than asking why it happens in the first place. Too often, the solution is another quick fix instead of a strategy built for a lifetime.
But what if we have been asking the wrong question?
What if the key to long term weight maintenance and better health is not just about what you eat, or even when you eat, but why you eat?
In an upcoming interview on March 5 at 6:00p ET, Dr. Tro Kalayjian sits down with New York Times bestselling author Dr. Jason Fung to discuss his new book, The Hunger Code. Together, they will challenge the outdated belief that weight regain is inevitable and explore the deeper biological and psychological drivers of hunger. Register for the event and live Q&A here.
In today’s world of ultra processed foods and the growing popularity of medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro, understanding why we eat has never been more important. In The Hunger Code, Dr. Fung outlines the three powerful forces that drive our desire to eat: physical hunger, emotional hunger, and social hunger. When these forces go unrecognized, they can quietly override even the strongest intentions.
Dr. Fung also introduces the concept of the body’s “fat thermostat,” a biological set point that regulates how much fat your body tries to maintain. Guided by hormones and metabolism, this internal system influences hunger and energy use, helping explain why lasting weight loss requires more than willpower alone. If we do not address the underlying drivers, the body works to restore what it perceives as normal.
During this conversation, Dr. Fung will share practical strategies drawn from the book’s Three Golden Rules and 50 actionable tips. From slowing digestion to breaking emotional eating cycles and navigating constant social pressure to eat, the discussion will focus on how to create sustainable change. Whether someone is starting from scratch, practicing intermittent fasting, or transitioning off weight loss medications, this interview will offer insight into maintaining results for the long term.
If you are ready to move beyond symptom management and understand the true roots of hunger, this is a conversation you will not want to miss.
