The TOWARD Health team was excited to share new data from its innovative metabolic employee wellness program at the 2026 Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners (SMHP) conference in Boca Raton, FL. The results highlight the powerful impact of a personalized, low-carbohydrate metabolic health approach on type 2 diabetes outcomes, medication use, and healthcare costs.

In a cohort of 64 employees enrolled in the program, more than half (54%) of participants with type 2 diabetes met criteria for remission after one year – defined as hemoglobin A1c < 6.5 without diabetes medications. An additional 12% reached HbA1c% <6.5% while taking metformin alone. Participants also experienced meaningful reductions in body weight, fasting glucose, and insulin levels. Over one year, 23 diabetes medications were safely deprescribed across the cohort, resulting in an estimated annual prescription cost savings of $93,600.

The program combines individualized low-carbohydrate nutrition, continuous glucose monitoring, and ongoing virtual clinical support – delivering real-world results that translate into healthier employees and lower costs for employers. These findings reinforce the growing evidence that metabolic health-focused care can reverse chronic disease and create sustainable change at scale.

Dr. Tro Kalayjian, Chief Medical Officer of Toward Health and board member of the SMHP, shares: We’re bringing real data, real outcomes, and practical tools to help individuals improve their health and to help employers create healthier, more productive workforces. By equipping both people and the organizations that support them with actionable insights, we can enhance care, reduce costs, and drive measurable impact. It’s time to act on the evidence and make a real difference.”
