The 2025 Symposium for Metabolic Health, held in Boca Raton, Florida, brought together some of the most innovative voices in the field of metabolic health. Toward Health proudly participated, contributing to the conference with insightful presentations, research posters, and impactful main stage talks that inspired meaningful conversations and highlighted practical strategies for improving metabolic health.
Dr. Laura Buchanan presented a poster for an employee wellness cohort on the impact of a metabolic lifestyle intervention program on food addiction and binge eating symptoms. His research highlighted that nearly 70 million U.S. adults are affected by food addiction, which poses a significant barrier to sustained behavioral change. Using the validated Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS), the study demonstrated that patients following a low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) experienced both short- and long-term improvements in food addiction and binge eating symptoms.
“Our findings emphasize the potential of low-carbohydrate dietary strategies as a powerful intervention for addressing food addiction and promoting sustainable health improvements,” said Dr. Buchanan.

Dr. Tro Kalayjian also presented a poster on lipid changes with the use of ezetimibe in patients on a ketogenic diet. Her study explored how ezetimibe, a cholesterol-lowering medication, significantly reduced LDL-C and total cholesterol levels in patients adhering to a ketogenic diet. This offers an alternative for patients who experience adverse effects from statins.
“Our findings highlight ezetimibe as a promising option for patients who cannot tolerate statins, showing results that exceed those reported in large-scale clinical trials,” Dr. Kalayjian explained.

Dr. Tro Kalayjian and Dr. Laura Buchanan also took the main stage, where they delivered a compelling presentation on Type 1 Diabetes: Exploring key strategies for managing this complex condition within the framework of metabolic health. Their talk provided practical insights into managing Type 1 Diabetes using a metabolic health approach.
In addition, they offered a behind-the-scenes look at how Toward Health creates consensus-driven care strategies for patients and providers, highlighting the organization’s commitment to collaborative, evidence-based care.
The Toward Health team also hosted a well-attended session titled “Building a Metabolic Health Journey”.
